Who are you?
We are a group of people who have faced the prospect of unemployment – whether through natural, early or enforced retirement or redundancy – at the ‘wrong’ age, 50 years old or more! And we soon realised that there are thousands of people just like us.

For one reason or another – whether for financial or because we enjoyed the challenge or interaction – none of us was ready to say goodbye to our working lives or being busy.

So, the concept of Skilled People.com was born. A register of mature, experienced individuals who are willing to work full time, part time, on contract, or as volunteers.

Isn’t there a potential conflict between Skilled People.com promoting jobs for the over 50s, and The Employment Equality(Age) Regulations 2006?
No. Whilst we are targeting mature and experienced people to join Skilled People.com, we don’t have any lower (or indeed upper) age limit – anyone is welcome. The Act simply makes it more likely that employers will give mature and experienced people greater consideration when recruiting, than may have been the situation in the past. The objective of Skilled People.com is to provide employers with access to potential employees, who hitherto have not been easy to reach, or have been rejected out of hand.

Do we have to pay to register?
No, there is no charge to employers or charities who wish to search the Register or post a vacancy.

What do we have to pay for?
There is no charge for posting a job on the website.

A fee is payable for job advertisements displayed on the website (these would be seen by everyone visiting the site, not just registered members), for the release of a member’s contact details, and when a member accepts a job. See our scale of charges.

There will be no charge to Charities for release of contact details, or when an appointment is made - provided the position is an unpaid one. A reduced fee will apply to any permanent paid positions.

How do we pay?
Because of the way in which the site operates, our preferred method of payment is by credit or debit card through a secure third party arrangement with Paypal.

In certain circumstances, we may be able to open an account and issue invoices. For further details contact admin@skilledpeople.com

How long does registration last?
For as long as you wish. Your company or organisation will remain registered, until you ask us to remove your details.

Why do you want an e mail address?
Because that is the way we will maintain contact with you. It will not be passed on to anyone else without your permission.

How long will a job vacancy remain on the site?

There is no time limit. The onus is on you to make sure that your vacancies are kept up to date, by removing positions that have been filled or withdrawn. This can be done very simply via your Administration Area.

How often do you match members to jobs?
New members are always being added, so the site is automatically searched for suitable candidates.

Supposing we want to change the criteria for the job we have posted or advertised?
You can make any changes you wish in the Administration Area dedicated to your business.

Will members see our contact information, or be able to identify our company or organisation?
Your contact details will not be released to any member unless you specifically ask us to do so. If a member wishes to make contact with you about a job in which they are interested, the notification will come to you by e mail from Skilled People.com.

If you supply your web site address when registering a job, this will be seen by members. Anonymity for your business can be preserved, by not entering this information when posting a job.

How will we know if you find a member who matches our requirements?
We will e mail details to you.

How will we know if a member is interested in our job vacancy or advertisement?
They will tell us, and we will alert you by e mail.

Is the information that you hold secure?
We hold all of our data on secure servers. Your organisation’s details will not be given to anyone without your express permission.

How do we get in touch with a member, if we see someone who appears to match our requirements?
Simply advise us their membership number and your job number, and we will notify them of your interest.

If they are interested in the position, we will release their details to you and you can contact them direct.

Can we search the site ourselves?.
You can search the site yourself using any mixture of Counties, Towns, and Postcodes. You can also search using Keywords; this will find details of all member registrations containing these words.

Do we have to use your form to post a vacancy?
Yes. The data has to be held in a specific format in order for the searches to be accurate. However, you can place an advertisement to promote your vacancy using your own style. Your advertisement will be available to anyone who visits the site, not just members.

How do we post an advertisement?
Go to your Administration Area, and follow the link.

What happens if a member accepts a job with us?
You must advise us immediately, by e mail, so that we can remove their career details from the site and invoice your company or organisation for payment. We may also ask you to give us some details about your experience, to help us identify possible improvements to the way the web site works.

What happens if a job we put on the site is filled by us from elsewhere?
You are obliged to advise us immediately, by email, so that we can remove your vacancy from the site.

What happens if we forget a password?
Go to your Administration Area and follow the instructions to create a new password.

Can we change a password?
Yes. Go to your Administration Area and follow the instructions for changing your password.

We can’t log in
Check that you have entered the EXACT e mail address and password that you used when you registered. If you are still experiencing problems, contact admin@skilledpeople.com and we will resolve the problem.

Can we have separate contacts in our company or organisation?
Yes. You can have a separate contact for each job that you post.

What happens if we change an e mail address?
Go to your Administration Area and follow the instructions for changing an e mail address.

How do we cancel our registration?
If you wish to cease all connection with Skilled People.com, e mail us at admin@skilledpeople.com.
