Job Description

The OUP Dictionaries Division publishes flagship online products (Oxford English Dictionary and Oxforddictionaries.com) and leads innovation in digital lexical publishing and licensing. We are working with the world’s largest technology and information providers and launching new initiatives such as the Oxford Global Languages programme which develops digital lexical resources with speaker communities across a wide range of languages.

This is a new role within the Oxford Dictionaries Product team. You will be responsible for overseeing the development of internal and customer facing dictionary and language products, including tools used by our editors and lexicographers. You will make sure product development helps us meet business goals and the needs of internal and external users

1. Act as Product Owner for mature internal and customer facing dictionary products
2. PRODUCT CHAMPION: clearly articulate and ‘evangelise’ product goals and vision within the business
3. BACKLOG MANAGEMENT: manage product backlogs, prioritize development so that requirements are accurately represented and conflicting priorities are identified and resolved
4. SPRINT MANAGEMENT: with support of Project Managers, conduct user acceptance testing to ensure development delivers user requirements; resolve blockers within implementation teams; support team ceremonies and development best practice
5. REPRESENT USERS: investigate and write-up user requirements and user stories so that these are translated effectively into development
6. ROADMAP PLANNING: contribute to roadmap planning so that product development aligns with business context and user needs
7. COMMUNICATION: liaise with all key groups including product teams, suppliers, developers, and senior managers to share product roadmaps and to ensure alignment of goals and priorities
8. LEARNING: continually apply learning from successes and failures to improve future processes and ways of working

We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following:

1. An interest in and understanding of the Product Owner role, and enthusiasm to learn processes, methods and practices relating to the role
2. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of technical and non-technical colleagues at different levels of the business
3. Highly motivated problem solver, keen to learn new technical and linguistic concepts
4. Adaptable to change, able to operate in ambiguity
5. Ability to learn software development tools (such as JIRA)
6. It would be an advantage if you have experience or familiarity with the following concepts, but this is not essential:

1. Familiarity with agile/SCRUM methodologies
2. Familiarity with concepts of user testing, user research or analytics
