Great recruitment market for over 50s jobseekers

Job opportunities and new career options for jobseekers aged over 50 are better now than at any time over the last 10 years according to Keith Simpson, managing director of SkilledPeople.com.

The continuing growth in the number of employed people in the UK, with a corresponding drop in jobless figures, means that many more employers are now considering older job hunters to fill recruitment vacancies.

SkilledPeople.com has around 22,000 people aged over 50 looking for new jobs and consultancy projects on its books. Whilst this number has more than doubled since 2011 the jobsite has noticed that daily registrations have slowed over the last 12 months as the supply of experienced people has tightened.

At the same time more employers have been engaging SkilledPeople.com to help them recruit high quality, experienced people with 25 years or more workplace knowledge.

The conclusion is that older jobseekers are now in a stronger position to stay economically active than for a long time.

“Recent new assignments have covered roles as varied as a New Business Director through to a Chairman’s PA and a retail store manager,” says Simpson.

“For years we have seen widespread ‘under the counter’ age discrimination being practiced. Employers are having to adjust their ways now that the UK is approaching full employment and candidates are in a more powerful position”, Simpson concludes.

SkilledPeople.com is the UK’s leading mature candidate jobsite aiming to make it easy and economical for employers to find and recruit people aged over 50.
